The Village of Pleasant Prairie has named Craig S. Roepke as the new chief of Fire & Rescue after the village conducted a “broad search.”
Roepke has been serving as the interim chief since the recent retirement of Chief Doug McElmury. He has been with the department since 1982. He served as a paid-on-call member of the department and as paid-on-call lieutenant and later captain until 2009 when he became a full-time fire-medic.
Roepke was promoted to deputy chief of fire & rescue in 2012.
In conducting a search, the village said candidates were interviewed by a three-member panel consisting of Mike Slover, Salem chief of fire & rescue; Jeff Steingart, chief of Countryside Fire Protection District; and Mark Kirschhoffer, chief of Newport Township Fire Protection District, according to Carol Wilke, Pleasant Prairie director of human resources. The candidates were then presented to the village’s Police and Fire Commission for consideration.
