Yanecek, a member of the sheriff’s crisis intervention team said he found the man in his garage in the 42100 block of North 6th Avenue with a knife. After talking to him, he said the man put his knife down and agreed to walk into a waiting ambulance. He was taken to a local hospital for his injuries and a mental health evaluation.

Stressing the importance of crisis intervention by his deputies, Sheriff Mark Curran said, “Initially, this was an extremely unstable situation which could have ended much differently if it weren’t for the patience and empathy exhibited by our deputies.”
