The death of a man in the 2300 block of Gideon Avenue in Zion Jan. 11 has been ruled a homicide by Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper who performed an autopsy on Jan. 13.
Shafon L. Hayes, 39, who lived at the home where was found by Zion Police after a 911 call was placed, had suffered a gunshot wound. When Zion Rescue arrived at the scene, it was determined the man had no vital signs.
Because of the ongoing investigation, Zion Deputy Police Chief Kirk Henderson declined to comment on how many times the man was shot, and where on his body he was shot.
Police said Lake County Major Crimes Task Force is assisting with the death investigation.
