As a community partner, the Lake County Health Department has committed to the 30-Million-Word Campaign. The initiative is encouraging parents to read more to their children, since there is a direct correlation between early verbal experiences in childhood and later achievement.
In connection with the campaign, the county health department has launched a free “Leaders are Readers” series in which community leaders read to children on a monthly basis.
