GO GURNEE links with Pokémon Go for popular pastime

The first Pokémon Go Meet Up in Gurnee was a huge success. More than 150 residents met at Viking Park late last month, paving the way for more events.

“It was great to see so many people come together to walk and view our parks from a different perspective,” said Susie Kuruvilla, executive director of the Gurnee Park District.

The next GO GURNEE Pokémon Go Meet Up will be on Tuesday, August 9 from 6 -8 p.m. in Viking Park.

“We saw many new faces join us in support of GO GURNEE. Our goal from the start of this movement was to get people out to their local parks, meeting neighbors and walking for at least 30 minutes each day. Pokémon Go is a fun, interactive way to do that,” Kuruvilla added.

GO GURNEE has already connected hundreds of residents to accessible, free parks and trails, and they are continuing to find innovate ways to get the community moving.

The next GO GURNEE Pokémon Go Meet Up will be on Tuesday, August 9 from 6 -8 p.m. in Viking Park at 4374 Old Grand Avenue in Gurnee. Lures will be set out, and the planned walking route will encompass three Pokestops and two PokeGyms.

“Everyone in the community is encouraged to join!” said Kuruvilla.
