Get a taste of the Kentucky Derby on the North Shore Saturday

Two North Shore restaurants are gearing up for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby by offering their own take on the fun Saturday, May 7.

At Barrel Crossing Tap & Grill in Highwood, partygoers will get to watch the most exciting two minutes in sports on its 11-flat screen TVs, all while enjoying traditonal Southern speicals. Offred will be minit juleps, bourbon smash drinks, vanilla bourbon root beer floats and traditonal Kentucky hot brown turkey sandwiches. The party will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Guests should dress to impress by being creative and donning their best Derby hat or bowtie, at a chnce to win a free lunch.

For a derby day party in Winnetka, head over to Taste on Chestnut, the North Shore’s newest ‘uptempo’ American eatery with a downtown feel.

From 4 – 7 p.m. guests will enjoy Julep flights and complimentary Southern bites while watching the race, all while wearing their Southern best.

Prizes will be awarded for best “Derby Hat” for the ladies. The winner gets a private make-up party valued at $700 hosted by Cos Bar in Highland Park. Gentlemen will compete for the best “Bow-Tie,” hoping to win a bottle of bourbon. Choose the winning horse and win a bottle of bourbon too   The fun doesn’t end there! Cos Bar makeup artists will be on site to freshen up faces and turn the ladies into true Southern belles with free touch ups. Need a fancy hat? Cos Bar will also be bringing customized Derby hats for the ladies to pose in. Take a photo with one of their fabulous hats and show off that Southern ‘hat-a-tude’ on Facebook.    Kentucky Derby favorites will be served including flights of pineapple, mango and traditional mint juleps and southern bites of salads, biscuits, party sandwiches and desserts for $19.95.

Stay for a decadent Derby dinner for $19.99 featuring curried chicken salad with currants, roasted walnuts and arugula; bourbon marinated pork chop with fingerling potatoes, heirloom carrots and blueberry gastrique; or corn meal dusted rainbow trout with creamy grits, asparagus and lime creme fraiche.
