Authorities are investigating an afternoon accident involving a pick-up truck and a young pedestrian who is now in critical condition.
On May 27 at approximately 2:43 p.m., Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Gages Lake Road at Almond Road, in Gages Lake, for a traffic crash with injuries. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they located a 12 year-old girl with serious injuries, who was struck by a pick-up truck.
A preliminary investigation, which includes statements by numerous witnesses, indicates at the time of the crash, the traffic light was green for traffic on Gages Lake Road.
Police said the girl was walking southbound, and crossing Gages Lake Road. The driver of a Chevrolet pick-up truck was traveling eastbound on Gages Lake Road, and was unable to avoid striking the girl. She was struck by the front-end of the pick-up truck, according to reports.
The girl was initially transported to Condell Hospital in Libertyville, and later flown to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, with critical injuries.
